Inwood goes baroque with Music for Change
On a rainy Friday night, members from the Inwood community gathered together to hear an exciting array of baroque masterpieces from Naples, Italy in Concerto Napoletano's debut concert, "Music for Change." The concert was free to the public and featured 11 musicians from around New York City, New York, and New Jersey.
"I didn't want to do another concert in Lincoln Center," said Concerto Napoletano director and Inwood resident, Andrew Koutroubas. "They have enough music happening down there. We needed to do something for the Inwood community."
The concert was concluded with Nicola Porpora's triumphant cantata "Or che d'orrido verno." After bows were taken and community members began mingling with the musicians, concertgoer Jean Katona remarked, "I can't believe music of this quality is here! We could walk here!"
The program, centered around embracing change, resonated with many of the concertgoers and musicians alike. Change is what we make of it, and the future of Concerto Napoletano's presence in the Inwood community looks bright.
